Applying for scholarships

How to apply

The application for research scholarships administered by QUT is included in your application for admission. To ensure you will be considered for a scholarship, you should:

  1. Consult the rules of each scholarship to identify which you are eligible for.
  2. Consider any special requirements for scholarships, and how you can include proof of how you meet these requirements in your application and supporting documentation.
  3. Tick the appropriate box on your application for admission. You can either specify the scholarships you are particularly interested in, or indicate that you would like to be considered for all scholarships you are eligible for.
  4. Include the required documentation with your application:
  • Two referee reports are normally required
  • A personal statement is required for some scholarships

How scholarships are awarded

All applications received within the major application round are ranked according to the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate grade point average

If you completed your undergraduate degree within the last 10 years, your grade point average will be converted to a score out of three points. If you completed undergraduate study more than 10 years ago, your undergraduate degree will not be considered. Instead, your scores for the remaining two items will be used to calculate this score.

  • Honours or Honours equivalence

Your grade for Honours, or expected grade if you are still completing Honours, will be assessed by your proposed Faculty according to documentation you provide in your application.

  • Faculty score

Your research proposal will be assessed by the Faculty in which you intend to enrol to assess the relevance to the strategic direction of their research agenda. This helps the Faculty assess how effectively they will be able to support your research, both academically and in terms of funding and facilities.
